Saturday Night Live TSA Video

With today being the busiest travel day of the year and TSA procedures being the leading news story of the day, blogs are running with this video from Saturday Night Live. I couldn't resist also.

Mark Washburn at the Charlotte Observer wrote an editorial this morning with similar humor.

Happy Thanksgiving and Safe Travels to all.

No Need 2 Speed Over Thanksgiving Holiday

With Thanksgiving around the corner, many of us will be getting in the car, ready to travel the interstates of North Carolina. The North Carolina Highway Patrol is currently running a campaign called "No Need 2 Speed" through the Thanksgiving holiday. So if you are traveling down the interstate and not sure if there is a police car behind you, I would assume it is. I'm not sure if Booze It or Loose it is still going, but plan on many police on the roads. Troopers are stepping up patrols on the interstates throughout the state. If you do receive a traffic ticket, be advised that simply paying off the ticket can result in a suspended license very quickly. An attorney can help you reduce the impact of the ticket.

Criminal Defense Lawyer- Trick or Treat

When a person calls my Charlotte law office and tells me they have been arrested for a DWI, several questions are immediately asked- Did you take a breath or blood test at the Mecklenburg County Jail, did you take a breath test when the officer pulled you over, did you perform field sobriety tests or were you stopped at a police checkpoint? However, I have never had a client tell me that he was dressed up as a  DWI  when stopped by police.

According to this article, a 19 year old Lincoln, NC man was arrested and cited for DWI and open container over the Halloween weekend. He was also wearing a breathalyzer costume. I can honestly say that a criminal defense lawyer's job is never predictable.

Football Coach Suspended- Is Winning Ever Wrong?

A criminal defense lawyer works for their client. They should work hard. A District Attorney works for the state. They should work hard to protect the public. At  no point should either party say "well, lets give the other side a chance." You do your job and you should do it well. You must fight for your client.

Needless to say I was a bit shocked by an article that said a high school football coach was suspended for allowing his high school team to win by too much of a margin. According to the article, the coach was suspended for running up the score by allowing team members to continuing passing in the 4th quarter, culminating in a final score of 75-7. The coach stated that it was Senior night and he let those players that had not caught passes yet this season to stay in the game. The losing team's coach said "you're kidding" when hearing about the suspension.

I question the message this sends to young people. Of course the losing team is embarrassed. However, disappointment is part of life. Both coaches shook hands after the game. You play hard. You play fair. Like the coach said- "I always shake a man's hand, before and after, win or lose." Am I the only person that thinks this suspension is crazy?
